Top teams will meet in the African Cup of Nations today

Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt will face off in one of the most anticipated matches of the Africa Cup of Nations 1/8 finals on Wednesday at 16:00.

Ivory Coast won Group E of AFCON 2021 with 7 points from 3 games played. Equatorial Guinea won 1-0, Sierra Leone drew 2-2, and Algeria won 3-1. The squad is led by French coach Patrice Baumel and includes players from major European leagues such as Aurier, Sangaret, Kessy, Pepe, and Haller. The Ivorians have determined to capture the title, but they will face one of the strongest teams in AFCON.

Egypt, on the other hand, finished second in Group D with six points. After losing the first match (0:1) against Nigeria, Salah and company won the next two, 1-0 against Guinea-Bissau and 1-0 against Sudan, to advance to this round of the competition. Mohamed Salah, of Liverpool, scored just one goal in the competition, in a victory against Guinea-Bissau.

The match between Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt is the last round of the African Cup of Nations play-offs. Both squads are made up of valuable European players. The two national teams have one aim in mind: to win the trophy.
